Are GMOs taken into account in the score?

No — Mira does not factor the presence of GMOs into a product's rating directly.

It comes down to available data. A manufacturer only has to declare GMOs when their share of an ingredient passes a legally defined threshold. Below that level no labelling is required, and in practice it is almost never added.

On top of that, detecting even small traces of GMOs takes complex, expensive lab testing. Checking every product this way at scale simply isn't feasible, and the information is usually nowhere to be found on the packaging.

The topic does reach the rating indirectly, though: Mira takes official organic certification into account, and organic standards prohibit GMOs (allowing only minimal trace amounts). That is why certified organic products earn a small bonus in Mira.
