What is Nutri-Score and how does Mira use it?
Nutri-Score is a science-based way of assessing the nutritional quality of food. It turns a complex composition into a clear, at-a-glance sense of how balanced a product is, helping you make more informed choices.
Mira uses Nutri-Score principles as the foundation for one part of its rating — nutritional quality. It doesn't apply the method as-is, though: Mira adapts it to the product type (everyday food, beverages, cheese, fats and oils, water) so the assessment stays fair for each category.
How it works
Nutritional quality is calculated per 100 g or 100 ml, so products can be compared on equal terms regardless of pack or serving size.
Beneficial components count in a product's favour:
protein;
fibre;
the share of fruit, vegetables, nuts and legumes.
Components best kept in check count against it:
calories;
sugar;
saturated fat;
salt (sodium).
Nutritional quality is only one of the factors behind a Mira rating. Alongside it, Mira looks at food additives (the riskiest one caps the score) and organic status. The result is shown as a score and a colour band — from 'Excellent' down to 'Bad'.
The rating is Mira's opinion. The words 'Excellent', 'Good', 'Poor' and 'Bad' refer to the rating, not to the product itself.
