Is palm oil taken into account in the score?

Not directly. Palm oil isn't a standalone factor in the score. But it's high in saturated fat, and saturated fat does affect a product's nutritional quality — the more there is, the lower the product scores on that measure.

One thing worth keeping in mind: Mira looks at how a product affects your health, not its impact on the environment. Yet palm oil is most often criticised for its environmental footprint — deforestation and loss of biodiversity. That side of the debate isn't part of the rating.

If you'd like to keep an eye on palm oil for your own reasons, Premium includes food preferences: you can turn on an alert whenever palm oil appears in a scanned product's ingredients and factor it into your recommendations. You can flag other things the same way — gluten or lactose, for example — and Mira will let you know when they're present.
